Many of the tools available to local governments when fighting blight involve court actions that start in the local magisterial district court system. Recent changes in the Pennsylvania Magisterial District Courts and Court of Common Please docket sheet now allow local governments to track problem properties. Communities will experience increased effectiveness solving blighted property problems if they improve their ability to function in and interact with the magisterial district court system.

Attend this program to learn:

  • Changes to the court record keeping system that now allow for the entry and tracking of parcel IDs
  • How the courts system operates and how to pursue code compliance and recover the cost of municipal prosecutions
  • Proper procedures and protocols for use by municipal code enforcement officials and employees on behalf of the municipality unrepresented by an attorney

Instructors Include:

Irene McLaughlin, J.D.

The Honorable Dennis R. Joyce, Magisterial District Judge

The Honorable Richard G. King, Magisterial District Judge

Programs for Attorneys and Municipal Solicitors

Interactive and peer-led, solicitors will be sharing their experiences of how they’ve deployed various blight-fighting tools.
