October Shale Webinar Looks at Natural Gas Pipeline Projects, Trends, and Pipeline Legislation

As unconventional well production has grown exponentially over the past few years, getting natural gas to market is of key concern. Dave Messersmith, Penn State Extension Educator with the Marcellus Education Team discussed major pipeline projects, industry trends, and recent and pending pipeline legislation during the October 17th monthly Shale webinar series.
This month’s webinar, “Pennsylvania Natural Gas Pipeline Roundup” was held on Thursday, October 17th from 1 to 2 PM ET.  Messersmith discussed some of the major transmission line projects in Pennsylvania, explored recommendations from the 2012 Pipeline Placement Report that was authorized by Act 13, and examined the Pipeline Safety Act and currently proposed Senate bills dealing with pipeline.
As part of the Marcellus Education Team, Messersmith has developed a special interest in natural gas pipeline and midstream infrastructure.  He authored the Marcellus Education Fact Sheet, "Negotiating Pipeline Rights-of-Way in Pennsylvania” and has spoken on the subject nationally and internationally. "Pipeline construction across the Commonwealth is likely to continue at a rapid pace for the next several years. Now is the time, as this infrastructure build out is taking place, to get it right" according to Messersmith.

Presented by Penn State Extension’s Marcellus Education Team, the monthly webinars are offered from 1-2 p.m. on Thursdays. Upcoming planned topics include:

Nov 21    Bradford County Community of Planning:  Resources for   the Community to be presented by Ray Stolinas, Planning Director, Bradford County Office of Community Planning and Grants

Dec 19   Drilling and Pipeline Cuttings Reclamation to be presented by  Averill Rance, Vice President, EH & S, and Daniel Mueller, General Manager, Drilling Services, Clean Earth
