Murrysville to educate public on Marcellus Shale gas drilling

Murrysville Council wants to hear a little more about the proposed drilling into the Marcellus Shale formation at Logans Ferry Road and Route 380.


With that in mind, council members decided yesterday that a portion of several upcoming meetings will be dedicated to the subject to educate all concerned. Range Resources, with regional headquarters in Canonsburg, has applied to drill into the Marcellus Shale to test the area. It is the first request for Marcellus Shale drilling in the municipality.


"What I’d ask is that we bring somebody in from the other side," said Jim Morrison, chief administrator. "Maybe somebody from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, someone of that ilk, get the other side of the story."


A public hearing was held April 7 at Franklin Regional High School, but some members of council felt more needs to be covered.
