G3 Summit discussions focus on tourism

Tourism was the topic at Tuesday’s G3 Summit.
The summit, the brainchild of Mt. Pleasant borough Manager Jeff Landy, is being held throughout the week at the Laurelville Mennonite Center, where officials from Connellsville, Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale are meeting in individualized sessions.
Cathy McCollum, director of the Trail Town Program, spoke of the benefits and opportunities that are available through the Progress Fund.
Working to build and promote towns along the Allegheny Passage, McCollum outlined the high usage of the trail and the benefits adjacent towns could experience.
"We want communities to become involved with the trail," McCollum said. "Our objective is to have these communities realize the value of the trails."
McCollum said businesses could be better marketed. She said the Trail Town Program’s goal is to not only promote existing businesses but to help create new businesses that could benefit from the traffic generated from trail usage.
"We want to help to fill empty businesses," McCollum said. "We see a growth market in the Laurel Highlands.
