G3 Summit concludes on high note

Date: 5/22/2010

The weeklong G3 Summit between Connellsville, Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale ended with a reception and address by keynote speaker Ronald Evanko, vice president of the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.

"These three towns have done something that has not been done before in the state," Evanko said. "They played off the G20 summit with this G3, focusing on the economics of their towns, and used this opportunity to work together."

Evanko said that he was not only impressed with the summit concept, but with the way in which it was organized.

"I think it was interesting how they ran the meetings," he said. "They let the guys who are involved in those areas do the talking. Those guys are the ones who know what is going on, and they know about their jobs."

Scottdale Borough Manager Barry Whoric said he believed the week was successful in the relationships that were formed.

"It was good to meet and to get everyone together," Whoric said. "It was great to get together and have the opportunity to talk things out and to realize that we do have similar problems, and this gave us the opportunity to address those problems."

Connellsville Councilman Brad Geyer also commented on new ties the week created.

"I got to build good relations with my fellow councilmen from our neighboring towns, and we all learned that our problems are pretty much the same," Geyer said. "This gave us the opportunity to get together to tackle them."
