UPPER BURRELL -- The Power of 32 wants residents to close their eyes and imagine life in the Alle-Kiski Valley in 2025. They want to know what will be the proudest parts of the region in 15 years and what the keys were to getting there.
The Power of 32, is a regional planning program for 32 counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and western Maryland. Meetings are being held around the region, including one held at Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday night.
The Power of 32 region is linked by waterways, Pittsburgh International Airport, colleges and universities.
Its organizers call the planning effort the largest of its kind.
Allen Kukovich, regional chairman for the Power of 32, said there is no preconceived agenda for the program.
A plan will be put together in the fall after the idea-gathering meetings are held in each county.
"You’re the ones who really put the power in the Power of 32," Kukovich said to about a dozen participants representing towns from New Kensington to Vandergrift to Greensburg.
